Hello again!
I missed writing a blog about last week's concert....we had website issues and I couldn't post anything in time for Wednesday night. Hope you got a chance to enjoy "Dance, Dance, Dance" at the bandstand.
This week, we're taking a musical look at several favorite forms of entertainment: the circus, movies and television. All the marches this week will be music from the circus. Our opener is Bravura by Charles E Duble, a "screamer", or upbeat march intended to accompany four-footed animals galloping around a circus ring. Another favorite, Circus Spectacular, is a medley of familiar circus marches arranged by Harold L. Walters. The selections include themes from Bombasto by Farrar, Gloria by Losey, Blaze Away by Holzmann, and Repasz Band by Lincoln. Our final march will be Barnum and Bailey's Favorite, another screamer by Karl King.
We also pay tribute to the silver screen in this week's concert. Among the movie themes you'll hear are selections from The Empire Strikes Back (one of the "Star Wars" saga), Titanic, Mary Poppins, Never On Sunday, The Magnificent Seven, and When You Wish Upon A Star from Walt Disney's "Pinocchio". This will be our final week to enjoy the fine playing of our visiting Horn section, so we are taking full advantage of them with all these movie themes!
Our last form of entertainment on this week's concert is the small screen: television. We're going to have a bit of fun looking back at some of the older TV themes.... Dallas, The Love Boat, and one from a familiar commercial, Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz (I'll let you try to remember which product it's from!) Another piece from the television venue is No Picture Tube. It looks at a popular style of programming and what might happen if you lost the picture on your TV, but not the sound during the program.
Hope to see you there for our last concert in July....hard to believe the summer is going so quickly!
