The 2020 Season Minimize

Due to restrictions of large group gatherings and social distancing requirements due to Covid-19, the Bridgton Community Band is unable to perform on Wednesday evenings at the gazebo next to Stevens Brook School. A member of the band suggested to our conductor, Steve Sweetsir, that perhaps the musicians might form small ensembles and play downtown to passerbys.  Many local musicians in the band enthusiastically embraced  the idea of performing outside in small groups and a reason to pick up their instruments.

Combinations of brass and woodwinds ensembles  will be performing at various times and locations through the day during July to entertain the public.  'the groups will also perform Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m.at the Bridgton Public Library Courtyard.  The public is invited but you would need to bring your own chair and masks and keep the social distancing.  There will be a Brass Ensemble performing at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4th at the Bridgton Public Library Courtyard.

The Bridgton Community Band is pleased  to let the Bridgton area know that we want to continue to share our love of music with you and that we are Alive and Well.

Visit us on Facebook, Bridgton Community Band, for more specific times and places.

About the Band Minimize

Group Photo taken August 14, 2019

The Bridgton Community Band, celebrating its 82nd Birthday in 2020, is one of the few remaining community bands in the State. For six or seven weeks during the summer, volunteer musicians principally from the Bridgton area, but others from various parts of the country, present a lively, FREE concert to locals and visitors alike. The members, dressed in their new red Polo shirt uniforms, play a wide variety of music from rousing marches to classical pieces. The Band has had only seven directors; Dick Albert held office the longest for twenty-eight years and Natasha Proctor for eighteen years.

At the end of the 2017 season, Steven Sweetsir (who plays French horn with us) was selected to fill the conductor's position for 2018 and beyond. Steven's bio information is found here.

Many people from the local area faithfully attend each week, while visitors to our area are excited to experience this unique activity. Audiences can range from children to seniors and number up to 150 or more.

At the last concert of each season, we celebrate the Band's Birthday with cake for the band members and audience. Here's the one from the 2019 season, our 81st:
